SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS ASSOCIATED TO OUR PROJECT

The Sustainable Development Goals are a guide that, in addition to allowing us to identify our social, environmental and economic impact, enable us to direct our actions towards a more sustainable path that adds value to society and the communities with which we work. In our start-up we have established the next Sustainable Development Goals, our objective is to support more SDG’s throughout the years.

1. Goal 5: Gender Equality

In our business we believe in gender equality, we think that this human right is the key to having a working environment which will be more pleasant and employees will feel more comfortable in their jobs. Moreover, the company saves on recruitment processes, as they will be less common, and can use that money to train employees.

Furthermore, it benefits the improvement of the relationship between female and male employees. This will be good for the business, because the more complicity there is among workers, the better the decisions will be made and the more benefits it will bring to the company.

We reflect this belief through the App because it is addressed to any person who is interested in fashion and wants to share their creations with more users. We are aware that the fashion world is targeted to women but we want to bring this field to men as they have to choose what to wear everyday.

2. Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

The next objective we are trying to achieve is called responsible consumption and production, and is closely related to environmental impact. Our company emphasizes curbing the environmental footprint generated by the excessive consumption of clothing, whose industry is the second most polluting on the planet. Of the tons of clothing manufactured each year, only 1% is recycled and we only use between 20 and 30% of the clothes we own, so our goal is to help people generate new combinations with the clothes they already have so that they realize that they do not need to buy more clothes, but that what they already have is enough.

In addition, a large amount of water and energy must be consumed to manufacture clothing, so reducing the purchase of clothing would mean manufacturing less clothing and reducing the excessive consumption of these resources.

Furthermore, we give the option for App users to donate their clothes to organizations that they can choose, as we collaborate with several NGOs and other organizations. Although you also have the option to sell the clothes to other users and, in this way, give a second life to clothes they no longer use.

3. Goal 13: Climate action

The textile industry excesses so many carbon emissions that it is responsible for between 4 and 10% of the total emissions, furthermore, it is the third largest sector in emissions. The greatest weight falls on the material, since two-thirds of the carbon footprint of an article of clothing come from the production of synthetic fiber.

As listed above, making clothes involves a large consumption of water. The waste is so much that it would supply 5 million people and it generates 20% of all wastewater on the planet and a huge amount of garbage, as 87% of all fiber is incinerated or dumped in landfills.

Our company prioritizes the reduction of excessive purchase of clothes and this is reflected in the values of our business because we believe that people do not need that much clothes to dress well. Like this, we partnered with our clients to combat climate change and to help the Earth a little.
